Spider Monkey

Here we go! The wedding planning has begun. My sister is engaged and to be married in June! She asked me to be her maid of honour. I am honoured!

phew! The day she asked me I prayed that I would not feel overwhelmed over the next 5 or so months, that I would relinquish worry and control over to Him. My first time as a bridesmaid being married and with a child, I'm still honoured!

So, I've obviously been thinking about toning up over the last week (as per comment in Tiffany's post). Since pregnancy and breastfeeding I've been trying to eat better, it's pretty hard to change some of those eating habits after 22 months. Continual eating, snacking, night snacks, it adds up. My aunt who has the metabolism of a spider monkey at 39, said to me she did no exercise in first year of baby, then eased into it after that, oh that was an encouraging comment. I did a small amount of exercise in the summer and fall, now is time for more. The elliptical is ready to go and excited for running in the spring. I have a few people around me to hold me accountable. (insert mother-in-law here ;)

How do you like your elliptical? It's something we've talked about getting. Wondering if I'd like a treadmill or elliptical better. What do you like about it?

Since trying it about 10 yrs ago at a hotel I've wanted one and my husband wanted one b/c he had back surgery and running jars his back. It's a very unusual motion, for that reason some people don't like it, cause it isn't natural movement. I like it b/c it works out things that wouldn't be worked with running. It's a good workout in a short time, can be challenging. I would take it over an treadmill, b/c really I can run outside 90% of the year if I wanted to and I like running/walking on soil/pavement over treadmill. Most of them have the upper arm movers too, not that it gives your arms a huge workout, but its something the treadmill doesn't have. We shopped at Treadmill Express in Winnipeg, the guy there was pretty helpful and we would've bought from him, but he delayed and delayed setting up the one we wanted to try and potentially buy, then Sears had a sale of one we really wanted (50% off), so we bought from them, we have a Sole E55, really like it, gets good reviews. We had to buy one with a huge stride for Quinn (he's over 6ft), which gives me a little more stretch but I manage. :) I would recommend (if you can) paying someone to set up for you, they're complex, it took the expert 4 hrs to set ours up, think we paid $75 for that service. Just my opinions, you'll have to try out and decide. And hopefully it doesn't end up as a coat rack as ours has for the last month. ;)

Sounds like I need to hit a hotel and try some things out. ;) Thanks for the tips.

I have an eliptical and love it. I like it b/c I have shown signs of bad knees.. a tread mill does alot of jaring on your body. I like it cause you can go as fast or as slow and your getting a work out and getting stretched at the same time. I have a Nordic track from Sears also. We got the one with the stride adjustment on it to accomodate my husband...plus as you get used to it, it is nice to stretch your self. I love it. and mine folds too. Ww put ours together ourselves, it wasn't too bad...took about 4 hours like Lyla said. I love it and use it all year round cause I can't run. Good luck on desicion making.

Kay Lyla when is this wedding?? Where?? Big?? Details ....got to know how many weddings I have this summer.

Congrats to your sister! How exciting for her, and for you too. :)

I love my treadmill, I use it all the time, would never go without one but I'm a wuss and won't walk or run outside in the winter and I've never gotten the courage to run outside even in the nice weather. People would see me. That being said, I don't know that I've ever really used an eliptical so I can't tell you anything about that. Pick something you think you'll actually use. That's all the advice I have. Good tips from those who have used elipticals. :)
